Social Maturity

Social maturity deals with learning to properly relate to aquaintences, friends and intimate relationships. It also involves understanding how to honor and respect those in authority; civil, parental, employer or spiritual.

Those in authority or those who will one day be in authority are taught principles of justice, judgement and mercy so that they will relate lovingly to their subordinates.

Some of the following topics are taught to develop valuable social skills and equip students with the necessary tools for the nurturing of all types of relationships:

The sensitive side of dealing with teens has to do with social maturity.  There are some sins that they choose to walk into, and then there are other problems that they fall into because of immaturity. How do we draw the line as parents? Many of us have found ourselves saying, "Why don't you get it?" or "What were you thinking?" There are things we expect our kids to understand that we ourselves just figured out recently!

Some kids may not be particularly socially developed, so the "popular crowd" rejects them. From there, many choose dark or rejected kids to befriend. Besides their peers and teachers, even Christian leaders tend to reject kids they don't know how to deal with.

Social maturity also involves peers respecting each other, not forming cliques, and not bullying. Those things don't happen here in our program. Here, the pastors, counselors, interns and students are taught how to combat these and other issues dealing with social maturity.
